Ex-Super Eagles star Christian Obodo was on Sunday, November 15 kidnapped in Warri, Delta State.
The 36-year-old disclosed the incident to Brila FM.
Narrating his ordeal, he said, “It was really discomforting; being locked up four hours in the car boot and in the heat.
“The kidnappers were even telling me about how they lost money for placing bets on Nigeria to score in the second half.”
The incident marked his second kidnap in eight years, the first being on June 9, 2012.
The ex-Super Eagles star added, “They didn’t hurt me or intimidate me because honestly, I can’t understand the reason for anyone to want to put me through this sort of thing over again.”
Obodo said he was considering relocating from Nigeria to avoid a recurrence.
The Delta State Police Command spokesman, Onome Onovawakpoyeya, confirmed the incident.
She said the ex-footballer was with his girlfriend when the incident occurred.
“Obodo was kidnapped at about 5pm on Sunday around Ishaka Hotel just along Refinery Road.
“He was with his girlfriend when he was abducted. They both stopped by the road to buy bananas,” The Punch quoted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) to have said.
Capped 21 times by the Super Eagles, Obodo retired from football in 2017 following a spell with Greek club, Apollon Smyrnis in 2017.
Between 2001 and 2012, he featured for several Italian sides, Perugia, Fiorentina, Udinese, Torino and Lecce.
