Food relief: Police nab women for cursing Gov. Abiodun in Ogun

2 Min Read

Three women in Ogun State have been arrested for raining curses on Governor Dapo Abiodun over the food distributed as COVID-19 relief.

A video that went viral on social media showed one Idowu Adekoya and two others cursing Governor Abiodun, and chairman and the vice-chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area for the poor quality of the palliative materials.

They said that the beans distributed to residents in Ijebu-Ode were filled with stones.

But the state government described the controversial video as “offensive and outrageously false”, saying the women were engaged by disgruntled politicians to discredit the government.

“The truth of the matter is that the fake news purveyor (Idowu Adekoya) who uploaded the offensive and outrageously false video on the internet, had already confessed to being negatively influenced to put up the video by some disgruntled politicians in Ogun State,” Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abiodun, Kunle Sumorin, said in a Thursday statement.

The Punch quoted counsel to the accused, Gboyega Okenla, as saying that his clients have been released from police custody.

He disclosed that the police had investigated the women for conspiracy and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.

“They have been released, there might be possibility for them to come back to the police station,” Okenla said.
