Members of the victorious Flying Eagles team pocketed $9,400 each (N1.8m) for their accumulated match and camp allowances, it has been learnt.
An impeccable camp source hinted before the team left for Nigeria from Dakar, Senegal, that the players and officials were made to smile few hours to the final match against Senegal. The source revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation’s Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, ensured that the backlog of camp allowances and bonuses were offset to boost the players morale.
The source said: “It was booster for the team to prove that their FIFA U17 World Cup win was never a fluke. The bonus and allowances paid the team was timely and they went on to conquer Senegal even before their home fans.
“For me, the team is yet to fly because I’m sure we would see a better side when the U20 World Cup kick off in New Zealand.” The team would again to smile to bank at their reception by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
