Alhaji Salisu Garba-Kubayo, Chairman, Kirikasamma Local Government Council in Jigawa  on Monday said the state government had donated bags of seeds and fertilizer to 4,682 farmers whose farms were destroyed by recent floods in the area.

Garba-Kubayo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kirikasamma that the farm inputs were distributed in 24 communities by Alhaji Imamu Mohammed, the chairman of a committee mandated to distribute the farm inputs.

He said each farmer was given 25 kg bag of fertilizer as well as a medium bag and tin of maize, beans, watermelon and tomatoes seeds.

The chairman listed the benefitting communities to include Kubayo, Maragwadu, Masama, Jian, Bauhe, Kukawa, Ilella, Gandu, Matarame, Glacochimi, Fandum, among others.

Garba-Kubayo commended Gov Mohammed Badaru for keeping to his promise to donate the items.

“ When the governor visited to sympathize with us over the recent floods, we appealed to him for intervention and as you can see, he graciously approved the donation.

“ Let me also commend the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture for taking their time to distribute these items to each of the communities,” he said

The chairman then warned the farmers against selling the inputs to middlemen, saying that anyone caught in such act would be sanctioned.
Garba-Kubayo also urged extension workers in the area to ensure that they trained the farmers on how to apply the farm inputs. (NAN)
