The militants that make up the Niger Delta Avengers have been active of late as they’ve claimed responsibility for numerous attacks on oil pipeline installations of late.
Reports now indicate that five of these militants were captured on Friday by the Nigerian military.
This is in the wake of the bombing of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, pipeline at Makaraba community, Gbaramatu clan, in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspects were reportedly taken to the 19th Battalion, Nigerian Army, Koko, Warri North.
According to the Vanguard, military sources confirmed that soldiers invaded Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the hunt for the militants.
President Buhari has already vowed to crush the NDA who have constituted a menace to the society with their actions and the invasion by the military was a strong show of force in that regard.
According to the Vanguard, a source said on Friday’s arrests, “They (suspected Avengers’ militants) were arrested immediately the blast occurred following the cordoning off of the scene of the incident by security operatives stationed to protect oil facilities in the area.
“The suspects were taken into the custody of the army in the area, but are yet to make statements or admit if they are members of the Niger Delta Avengers or otherwise.”
