Young right back Hector Bellerin starred during Arsenal’s 5-1 Emirates Cup victory over Benfica, with a number of rampaging runs forward from defence.
The signing of Southampton youngster Calum Chambers had been expected to push Bellerin further back in the pecking order but, with his future possibly being at centre back, it could open the door for Bellerin.
Yaya Sanogo
Striker Yaya Sanogo put in an incredible performance against Benfica, scoring four of Arsenal’s five goals as he began to come of age as an Arsenal player after a quiet debut season at the Emirates Stadium.
Sanogo seems fitter and sharper, however, and showed a ruthless streak in front of goal that had deserted him during his opportunities last year.
Aaron Ramsey
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was by far Arsenal’s most impressive player last season before his campaign was curtailed by injury – but he looks raring to go this time around.
Ramsey has featured throughout Arsenal’s pre-season and the driving runs from midfield that made him such a threat in the opening months of last season were in evidence once again.
Along with Sanogo, young striker Joel Campbell also impressed against Benfica after he finally returned to the club from a number of loan spells abroad, with a fine World Cup campaign for Costa Rica under his belt.
Campbell looked, quick, strong and showed plenty of skill as he grabbed a debut goal with a fine half volley from the edge of the area against the Portuguese champions.
