First Bank of Nigeria Limited has again demonstrated its commitment to providing inclusion, advocacy and public enlightenment for blind and visually impaired persons in the country through its consistent support for the Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) White Cane and Safety Day.
The Bank has supported the White Cane and Safety Day since 2011 and actively participated in its Charity Walk through the Bank’s Employee Volunteering Scheme (EVS) in addition to other donations made to the institution. The annual White Cane and Safety Day which took place on October 15, 2014 saw a turnout of members of the Association, friends of the Association, well-wishers and FirstBank staff as they walked the distance from Agege Stadium to Excellence Hotel Ogba.
In a statement by the Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications, FirstBank, Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney, the Bank’s partnership with NAB is implemented on the platform of FirstBank’s “Hope Rising” initiatives aimed at providing health and welfare support for indigent persons and persons living with disabilities. Through the years, the Bank has been committed to supporting persons living with disabilities and it is worthy of mention that the President of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, David Okon, is a staff of FirstBank.
“Today’s engagement with staff participation is part of our Employee Volunteering Scheme (EVS) designed to encourage our employees to individually and collectively contribute to social responsibility projects to further entrench social responsibility as a core component of our organizational culture”. According to her, FirstBank would continue to do business responsibly by empowering its communities and impacting the lives of the society at large.
