First Lady devastated over death of mother, Abubakar sends condolences

2 Min Read

FIRST Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, is said to have received the news of the death of her mother in ghastly motor accident with sadness and grief.
The woman was said to be the foster mother of the wife of the president.

Presidency source revealed in Abuja, on Tuesday, that Patience, who is away in Geneva, Switzerland, was utterly devastated by the demise of Mrs Iwari-Oba in a motor accident on Elele road in Rivers State, on Monday.

There was no official word on the death of the woman popularly called Mama Sisi, but the First Lady is expected to cut short her visit to Switzerland, so as to oversee the burial arrangements.

The late Mrs Iwari-Oba was said to have been on her way from Okrika, Rivers State, to Bayelsa State, when she met her death.

Meanwhile, wife of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Hajiya Titi Abubakar,  has expressed her condolences  to the First Lady on the death of her mother.

In a letter of condolence she released in Abuja yesterday, Hajiya Abubakar said she was personally touched by the sudden and unfortunate death of the First Lady’s mother.

According to Hajiya Abubakar, a mother’s love is the deepest experience in the life of her children and for that reason, she said, Nigerians should connect to the First Lady with a sense of sympathy and empathy.

Hajiya Abubakar  said as a child, she experienced a mother’s love and understood what it meant to lose a mother at whatever age.
