The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that the first day of its two-day warning strike was a resounding success across the nation.
The union said this in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero thanked all Nigerian workers, affiliates and state councils for the massive support that made the warning strike a success.
He said that they have all shown that their words and decisions will always be backed up by action.
This, Ajaero said, has resonated throughout the country, noting that the message must have been passed to those who doubted the union’s resolve to push through with its objectives.
According to the NLC President, the union’s objectives for the first day were “fully met because of the high level of compliance experienced as a result of your collective efforts around the federation”.
He urged them to continue on Wednesday, the second and final of the nationwide strike, with the same zeal and determination that saw “the huge success” that was recorded on Tuesday.
Ajaero expressed hope that this would make the entire exercise a “complete success”.
Thanking all Nigerian workers and the masses for their understanding, he enjoined all to join hands to ensure that all loopholes observed during Tuesday’s exercise were corrected today.
“It is our civic duty to ensure that we are governed effectively and that those in government remain accountable to the people at all times.
“We are committed to that and with your continued support, our nation will surely become a better place for all of us.
