To avert a fire disaster, the Lagos State Police Command has advised against self-installed gas carburetors to power generating sets.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin gave the piece of advice in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.
Many Nigerians have been switching to the use of gas to power their generators since the pump price of petrol skyrocketed due to the removal of subsidy on petrol.
To do this, the factory-fitted petrol carburetor is removed from the generating set and a gas carburetor is installed.

In his post, the Lagos PPRO said experts have warned that the installation can cause an explosion if not done by qualified technicians.
Hundeyin wrote, “ADVISORY: Many Lagosians installed gas carburetors in their power generating sets to enable them use gas in place of petrol. Most did the installation by themselves or engaged the services of non-qualified technicians.
“To AVOID FIRE OUTBREAKS, kindly engage a qualified technician to inspect the installation and certify it fit for use.
“This advisory is based on genuine survey and concerns from experts who know better.
