FOWA President, Mrs Amina Liman, in a brief remark at the ceremony, said that the donation was part of the social responsibilities of the association whose members were mothers.

Liman urged the orphans to be of good conduct and pay attention to their academics, and commended the management of the facility for ensuring that the kids were properly catered for and sent to school.

The Administrator of the facility, Mr Darlington Francis, thanked FOWA for the visit and kind gesture, and listed some of the challenges to include food shortage, school fees and the lack of school bus.

He said that all the children at the orphanage attend schools with some in nursery and primary schools while others were in secondary schools.

“The good thing is that most of them are on scholarship provided by generous Nigerians,” he said.

He advised young ladies not ready to become mothers to avoid getting unwanted pregnancies that could lead them to abandon their babies.

“We have had situations where we lost some babies found at the road side when they could not get medical attention at the hospital at the right time.

“We have children with HIV and sickle cell anaemia, but it is difficult catering for the ones with sickle cell anaemia due to the excessive pain and extra care they need.

“We give room for adoption because we don’t believe orphanages are the best places for children to grow,” he said.

Two identical twin sisters at the orphanage, Mary and Martha, who spoke on behalf of their colleagues, thanked the association for the gesture.

Among items donated were cartons of macaroni pasta, cartons of noodles, bags of rice, cartons of maggi sauce, cartons of beverages, crates of eggs, among others.
