A section of a church building in Delta State was on Sunday destroyed by a fire that erupted during service.
The affected new generation church, Charismatic Renewal Ministries Inc. (CRM), aka Transformation Faith Centre, is located at No. 35, Biosa Amantu Street, off Jesus Saves Road, Oshimili South LGA of the state.
According to witnesses, the fire started after a member plugged a phone to a power socket in one of the rooms within the church complex and left it on a mattress.
The resulting inferno was said to have destroyed some documents when it engulfed the administrative section of the church.
Members of the congregation reportedly ran for dear lives after smoke and heat from the inferno hit the church hall before the timely intervention of the state fire service prevented further damage.
The Herald recalls that Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa in September 2019 called for an effective fire-fighting service to minimise loss of lives and property nationwide.
