Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 caught fire on Tuesday evening and resulted in significant flight delays as stranded passengers were evacuated to Terminal 3 after the incident.

“Three people were sent to hospital for smoke inhalation.

“All flights departing and arriving at Terminal 2 have been moved to Terminal 3 until further notice,” said Changi Airport Group (CAG).

The fire may have started at the air conditioner unit area at Level 5, according to local media reports.

Changi Airport officials said the fire alarm was activated at about 5:40 p.m. local time as smoke came through the air vents.

“Evacuation of the terminal was initiated and the Changi Airport Emergency Service team is onsite.

“We expect significant delays to departing and arriving flights at Changi Airport this evening. Changi Airport Group apologises for the inconvenience caused,” a spokesman for the CAG said CAG said.

The fire was then put out by Singapore Civil Defence Force using a hose reel jet. (Xinhua/NAN)
