FIFA WOMEN W/CUP: Courtney Dike Confident Super Falcons Will Do Nation Proud

2 Min Read

Super Falcons forward, Courtney Dike, has said the team will go beyond the group stage of the on-going FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Nigeria will begin their campaign at the tournament on Monday against Sweden at the Winnipeg Stadium and the Falcons will be seeking to get a win over the Europeans for the first time after two previous meetings have ended in a stalemate and a loss.

Dike, who also played at the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup, said the team are ready for their opponents in their group and will ensure they go as far as possible in the competition.

“I am very optimistic that we will go very far in this competition – beyond the group stage – because we have very good girls in the team and there is a kind of chemistry among us that has bonded us together in a positive way,” she said.

“There is excitement here ahead of the competition and the preparations are geared towards achieving the goals we have set for ourselves as a team.

“The other teams in our group are also good enough and they will also have prepared and be ready to face us here in Canada.

“But it is not about them but about us and what we want to get out of here, which is progression – first from the group stage – and which we have set our eyes and focus on.”
