FIFA Provisionally Suspends Sepp Blatter For 90 Days

1 Min Read

Sepp Blatter has been provisionally suspended from Fifa for the next 90 days.

Klaus Stoehlker, an advisor to Blatter, told Sky News that the governing body’s ethics committee had handed the sanction to the outgoing leader, who is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Swiss attorney general.

Stoehlker said: “What we know is that President Blatter was told he has been suspended for 90 days.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the outgoing president had described the investigation into him as “outrageous”, telling German magazine Bunte: “The situation is not pleasant.

“I am being condemned without there being any evidence for wrongdoing on my part.”

Investigations into Blatter, who has led Fifa since 1998, centre around suspicions of “criminal mismanagement or misappropriation”.
Blatter is accused of making a “disloyal payment” of £1.3 million to Michel Platini in 2011. The Uefa president has said this was in relation to work he carried out “under contract” for Fifa between 1999 and 2002.

Platini has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

The 79-year-old Fifa president is also alleged to have agreed a television contract with then Concacaf head, Jack Warner, that was not in the interests of the organisation.
