The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has assured Nigerians of more reliable power supply as the plans to be hatched and execution by the present administration in that area was sure to add at least 2000 megawatts to the national grid by the last quarter of 2016.
Fashola disclosed this on Tuesday when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Power and Mines in Abuja.
According to the honourable minister, power generation and distribution had undergone a lot of changes, which ensured that distribution was no longer the business of government but of private companies.
He added that the transmission of power in the country was being managed by a Canadian firm, Manitoba International.
In a statement, the ministry said it was giving priority attention to completion of ongoing projects, transmission chain, refurbishing power plants and tackling issues of gas supply.
The Tuesday statement signed by the Assistant Director of Press, Etore Thomas, said if these areas were given the needed attention in the 2016 budget, electricity generation in the country would be given a much-needed boost.
