The Federal Government has closed down a Chinese restaurant in Lagos for refusing to allow Nigerians eat in the restaurant.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) said in a tweet that it shut the place, Haufei Restaurant and Mall located at 33 Aboyade Cole Street in Victoria Island, on Saturday.
FCCPC said the action was carried out based on credible intelligence and surveillance that the business declines service to Nigerians.
According to the tweet, “staff of the business admitted that it is the policy and our operatives experienced same.
“Both now closed for further regulatory action.”
Photos of the shut premises were also shared in the tweet.

Director-General of FCCPC, Barr. Babatunde Irukera explained in a follow-up tweet that two officials of the commission confirmed the policy after posing as customers and were not served.
He added that the Chinese manager of the restaurant was allowed to close the place before handing the keys over to FCCPC officials on ground.
Irukera said that this was permitted as the restaurant’s staff cooperated with the commission’s enforcement officers.
A Nigerian lady who identified herself simply as Folabomi had gone viral on Instagram after narrating how she was prevented from eating at the restaurant.

Another Nigerian, Danny Azemobor, said, “The first time I entered this restaurant they were looking at me as an outcast, if not for the Philippine man I followed they won’t have let me drink water.”
