The federal government has closed its case against the former minister of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Godsday Orubebe at the Code of Conduct Tribunal
Orubebe, who is being tried on a one-count charge bordering on false declaration of asset during his tenure as the minister of NDDC, is also known for disrupting the counting of votes by the former INEC chairman in the 2015 elections.
On Wednesday, May 25, Mohammed Diri, the director of public prosecution represented by Ejike Orji said the prosecution was ready to close its case.
“Having reviewed the case, we feel there is no further course to call for any other witness to this matter, to this we humbly apply to close our case for the prosecution,’’ Orji said.
The defence counsel, Selekowei Larry, in his reply revealed to the court that his team was astounded by the development.
He further asked the court for an adjournment to enable his team prepare for defence on the case against the former minister.
The judge and chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar ruled in favour of the defence’s application for adjournment and adjourned the case to Tuesday, May 31, for the Orubebe to open his defence.
