The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, says the costs of internet data and other telecommunication services will reduce by 40 percent in the next five years.
He said this during an opening address at a journalism training organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja.
Pantami said the cost slash would be made possible as the Federal Government has addressed two critical challenges in the telecommunications industry, particularly Right of Way (RoW) Charges and infrastructural protection and development.

The minister said the infrastructural protection and development has expanded broadband penetration from 30 percent to 40.18 percent in the country in the last year.
With these improvements, the minister said, prices of data and other telecommunication prices would reduce up to 40 percent between now and 2025.
According to him, the reduction was part of measures undertaken by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to encourage digital economy and improve the citizenry living standard.

Pantami added that there would also be emphasis placed on skill acquisition and development and away from paper certificates and degrees with a view to creating millions of jobs within a short while.
