House of Representatives Committee on Works has revealed that the federal government is owing contractors over N300 billion.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Toby Okechukwu made this revelation during the inaugural meeting of the committee.
He explained that hat most contracts for Nigerian roads are hardly funded after the contract has been issued.
He said “We have major arterial roads that lead to major cities, intrastate roads, inter zone roads, all these should receive attention….the earlier we begin to address funding deficit, the better for us.”
He added that the committee will propose bills that would consider alternative funding particularly for roads.
