The Federal Government has concluded plans to donate science and technology equipment to selected schools across the country.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Mr Taye Akinyemi, Deputy Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement quoted the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, as saying this at the introduction of Tablet Technology at the Regent Primary School, Abuja.
Onu said the ministry would set up science and technology museum that would make science, technology and engineering easier and attractive for students to understand.

The minister applauded the management of Regent schools for introducing the children to the world of technology by launching the tablet for them.

According to him, what is happening in Regent schools is in line with the vision of the present administration to add value to learning by moving from resources-based to knowledge-based economy.
“This which will enable the nation to create jobs and move invention and innovations from laboratories to products and services’’, he added.

He said no nation was great without engaging science and technology for its development.

“The difference between developing and developed countries is purely the utilisation of science and technology.

“When we invest in science and technology, we will have the capacity to build our roads, seaports and airports and this will give us national uplift.

“It is important for world peace that Nigeria becomes a strong nation”, he said.

The minister challenged the school to aspire to produce the next astronaut and Olympic gold medalist.

Headmaster of the school, Mr Michael Dickson said introduction of tablet technology was to complement the teacher’s work and make teaching exciting.
