To curb illegal trading in ivory that has become a cause for a global ban, the Federal Government of Nigeria has seized 55 elephant tusks illegally imported into the country.
The Area Controller for Taraba and Adamawa states, Nigeria Customs Service, Francis Adetoye said on Wednesday that the seizure was made along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
He said the discovery was made during a joint smuggling and drug patrol by men of the service.
It was not immediately clear if the tusks were headed to Nigeria or in transit to another country.
