Federal Government has commenced work on the construction of camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State.
Benue State Govenor, Gabriel Suswan while playing host to the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR) in Makurdi said the camp will serve as relief to IDPs in the state.
He said “For most of us, it was the first time in our lives to witness the heavy overflow of River Benue and its devastating effect on the people.
“We had our own share of the flood disaster that visited 22 states in Nigeria.
“Though we were on hand in performing our responsibility to the people the Federal Government assisted the state with a lot of relief materials and funds to mitigate the hardship of the IDPs in the state.”
While speaking at the occasion, the leader of the delegation, PCFRR, John Owoicho added that the Camp will contain two blocks for the IDPs and it would also house other facilities such as administrative block, mini warehouse and Clinic.
Owoicho said The project which would cost N300 million would be funded by the committee and is going on across 22 states”.
“We are going to construct two blocks for the male and female persons respectively. We also have an administration block, clinic, warehouse, generator room among other facilities.”
