Following the outrage on Nigerian social media, the Federal Government, FG, has tendered an apology for asking citizens to register their bank details in their respective financial institutions again or risk paying heavy fines.
The news sparked massive outrage on social media as Nigerians lampooned the government for creating policies to make the lives of average Nigerians more difficult.
Reacting to the backlash, Federal Government has withdrawn its statement and apologised for the misleading tweet which sparked the outrage.
In a tweet, FG wrote;
“We apologise for the misleading tweets (now deleted) that went up yesterday, regarding the completion of self-certification forms by Reportable Persons.
The message contained in the @firsNigeria Notice does not apply to everybody. FIRS will issue appropriate clarification shortly.”
