“FFK collected N2bn from Rivers govt, used it for drugs” – Dino Melaye

Melaye and Fani-Kayode

The mudslinging between Official Spokesperson of PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Dino Melaye, and former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode continued on Tuesday as the former accused the APC chieftain of misappropriating N2 billion collected from the government of Rivers State.

Melaye shared a video of former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi laying the allegation on a television programme in 2018.

Amaechi said that his predecessor, Dr. Peter Odili’s government gave N2 billion to Fani-Kayode, who was then Minister of Aviation, to fix a deplorable portion of the runway of the Port Harcourt International Airport.

Amaechi, who was Minister of Transport at the time, said that Fani-Kayode “went away” with the money.

Fani-Kayode has since denied the allegation, noting that the airport was rebuilt and fully paid for by him when he was Minister of Aviation.

But reposting the video on Twitter on Tuesday, Melaye insisted that the ex-minister got the money from the state government and “used it on drugs”.

The accusation is part of ongoing online confrontation between the politicians, who are supporting different candidates for the 2023 presidential election.

While Melaye is supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Fani-Kyode has pitched his tent with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC.

The confrontation started when Fani-Kayode asked the Federal Government and security agencies to take Melaye up on the statement credited to him on the emergence of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman.

Melaye had in a chat with journalists recently said all the PDP governors spent money at the party’s national convention held in December last year to ensure the emergence of the former Senate president as national chairman.

Responding to Fani-Kayode’s jibe, the PDP campaign spokesman said the ex-minister lacked comprehension.

On Monday, Fani-Kayode took to his Facebook page to share a video of Melaye mocking another frontline presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Fani-Kayode captioned the video: “After Peter stopped Dino from licking his masters ar*se…🤮🤮🤮🤮

He also shared another video in which a heckler purportedly admitted taking “drugs” with Melaye the night before.

“The young man in the crowd told Dino that they were friends and that they were taking drugs together the night before.
“Dino smiled and walked away.
“He couldn’t deny it,” Fani-Kayode said.
