Fernando Torres could face an extended ban if the Football Association decides to take action over his clash with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.
Torres had an early bath after receiving two yellow cards in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Saturday. The first was thanks to a trip on Vertonghen, but referee Mike Dean chose not to react when the Spainard raised his hands to Vertonghen immediately afterwards.
If Mike Dean confirms in his report that he did not see the incident then video evidence will be sent to the FA’s new independent disciplinary panel, who must decide what actions to take on Fernando.
If Torres is found guilty of violent conduct then he may see his one match ban extended to four games.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes he is now getting the best out of Torres after an improved performance from the striker against Spurs.
The Spaniard has started Chelsea’s last two games after being left out for several games and Jose feels better fitness is important to get an improved performance from the striker.
“Fernando is very strong,” Mourinho said. “Physically, I think he’s living a very good moment.
“I was watching Fernando’s matches for Chelsea in other seasons and it looked to me, a bit heavy, a little slow. Fernando now looks in fantastic shape.
“He played a very good game. He knows what I think, I don’t have to tell him. He knows I’m very happy with his performances. He knows already.”
