Nigeria international and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has held talks with Fenerbahce as he seeks regular game-time according to reports.
Mikel made just six starts in the Premier League for Jose Mourinho’s title-winning side last season, with another 12 appearances from the bench.
Mikel has been an important cog in the Blues’ engine room since his acrimonious transfer from Norwegian outfit Lyn in 2006, but the arrivals of Ramires and Nemanja Matic in recent years has seen his first-team opportunities wane.
Fener have been active in the off-season transfer market, signing Portugal winger Nani from Manchester United, while they are reported to have agreed a deal for Robin van Persie as well, with the Istanbul giants looking to wrest the Super Lig title back from arch-rivals Galatasaray in 2015/16.
Ersin Duzen, who is the presenter of Turkish football programme Futbol Gunlugu, claims that the club’s sporting director, Giuliano Terrane, met with Mikel in London over a potential switch to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
