Edet and Idorenyin

Promise Idorenyin, the SS2 student arrested with a double-barrel pistol, has confessed to being a member of a local cult group – Sky Queen cult group.

She made the confession while being paraded before newsmen by the state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande on Friday.

Idorenyin was paraded alongside her 38-year-old boyfriend, Okon Effiom Edet, and 11 other suspects.

She explained that Edet, a father of six from two different women, gave her the gun.

However, the 17-year-old student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa in Akpabuyo Local Government Area denied that she took the firearm to school to shoot her teacher.

The Commissioner of Police had told newsmen that the school principal discovered the gun in Idorenyin’s bag.

However, the commissioner backed the suspect’s claim that she did not plan to shoot her teacher.

Idorenyin explained that her boyfriend asked her to take the gun to the blacksmith for repairs but she took it to school to show her friends.

However, Edet denied giving her the gun, saying he took the gun to the girl’s house where he sometimes sleeps and forgot it there.

Asked how long she had known her boyfriend, the student said, “It was August last year. He supports me with some school things but my parents said he should not pay my school fees.”

Edet, a farmer, disclosed that Idorenyin’s parents were aware of their relationship.
