Fayose Vows To Resist Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Ekiti, Rivers

2 Min Read

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has vowed to resist any attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari to impose a state of emergency in Ekiti or Rivers, where a legislative rerun on Saturday witnessed widespread reports of political violence.

The governor, a well-known critic of President Buhari and APC, made this known in a chat with State House Correspondents after the 2-day National Economic Council retreat was declared open in the State House, Abuja.

He said the president and his party will be taught an important lesson that power belongs to the people and not politicians, should it decide to go ahead with the state of emergency that was being mooted.

“They have been insinuating that (state of emergency) too in Ekiti. We have been waiting for them. Power has gone beyond the leaders; power has gone back to the people.

“You want to declare state of emergency, declare it and we will tell you that the state of emergency will not work too. This country belongs to all of us,” Fayose said.

He also decried the militarisation of the election in Rivers, saying that: “The military has got no business in our election.”
