This is nothing short of taking Ekiti people for a ride – APC

The performance of the Ekiti state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose in the last one year has again put him in the ‘war zone’ with the All Progressives Congress (APC) who are not pleased with his performances.

Fayose maintained that his performance has been “satisfactory” but the APC described his showing in office as a “celebration of reversal of fortunes” for the people.

The governor, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, insisted that he had done creditably well in office, despite the state’s financial challenges.

Fayose said: “I have said that I will leave no project uncompleted during my four–year term. It is my duty to ensure that all Ekiti residents enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“Though, we have paucity of funds and within the little resources we have, I think I have satisfied my conscience and done creditably well”.

Speaking earlier on a radio programme, Fayose said: “Amid these challenges, we are not doing badly, it has been tough, we have been financially handicapped and we had security challenges.

“It has not been easy but God is with me. With the new bailout received, Ekiti debt now extends to 2036. I want to say that administrations that will come after should not commit the state to debts they cannot offset.

“When I left office the last time, I left N10.4 billion, and I inaugurated many projects. But despite these financially challenges, I have been able to inaugurate many projects with many others also ongoing.

“We have done our best within the scope of limited resources available to us.”

The APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement, said: “The experience of Ekiti people in the last one year had shown clearly that there is nothing to celebrate in terms of achievements”.

Accusing Fayose of running a one-man government without regard to the law, he cited the new unbudgeted airport project that had led to the death of a farmer.

Olatunbosun also alleged that there was no segment of the society that Fayose has not visited with pains and anguish.

He added: “Thousands of young men engaged by former Governor Kayode Fayemi have lost their jobs, promotions for civil servants and teachers by Fayemi have been cancelled and statutory allowances to civil servants have been reduced while allowances to traditional rulers were cut by 40 per cent.

“The asphalt overlay at Fayose Market he inaugurated is an MDG project paid for by the Fayemi administration.

“The asphalt plant he “inaugurated” was bought and paid for by the Fayemi administration. Fayose only received the equipment when they were shipped into Nigeria.

“The Matthew Street road is the joke of the century as Fayose only fixed the culvert and graded some portions of the road, which he inaugurated as a project. This is nothing short of taking Ekiti people for a ride. It is chicanery of the highest form.”
