Fashola insists power supply is now better, lists his other achievements

3 Min Read

Nigeria’s current Minister of Power, works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has reiterated that power supply in the country is far better than it was before he assumed the position in 2015, adding that other sectors which he had led within that period have also achieved some milestones.

The Minister made the assertions when he held a Media Parley at his office in Abuja yesterday, 30th of April, 2019.

Fashola continued by stating that his points would be validated if well-meaning Nigerians were to be consulted about them.

He equally mentioned that he was certain that all that he promised had been fulfilled as infrastructures such as roads and housing have experienced progress in his tenure.

Fashola said, “In the power sector, well-meaning Nigerians acknowledge our efforts by saying clearly that their power supply experience has improved compared to 2015, and we acknowledge that the work has not finished. The task going forward is to solve the outstanding issues of estimated billing, supply of meters, add more power and make the supply steady which I stated will be our medium-term goal.

“Construction workers will tell you that they now have a better deal, likewise quarry operators. More importantly, the road transport operators and their unions and commuters will tell you that their journey times are better. The housing sector has a similar story of economic opportunities with construction going on in 34 states most of which are now largely completed.”

The former governor later stated that what isleft is finishing up what his ministry has started and by re-electing president Muhammadu Buhari, there won’t be further delays.

“But our work is not finished. These are some of the reasons why President Muhammadu Buhari was re-elected. To take the people to the next level and finish the job,” he said.

Fashola equally explained how his ministry has been able to tap into off-grid sources as far as power is concerned. He mentioned that the Ilorin-Jebba road now takes only one hour to traverse, compared to a time when it took 3-7 days.

He continued, “Maintenance work on bridges, long neglected is being undertaken on assets like 3rd Mainland Bridge, Isaac Boro Bridge, Tamburawa Bridge, Eko Bridge, the old Niger Bridge, while new ones like 2nd Niger Bridge, Bodo-Bonny Bridge, Loko-Oweto Bridge, are being constructed and others have been recently awarded.”
