Fashion show will boost tourism—Expert

2 Min Read

A fashion designer, Mr Ayodele Mayowa, on Friday said that regular organisation of fashion shows would boost the development of tourism in the country.

Mayowa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that they would also serve as platforms to showcase the varieties of the country’s local fabrics to the international community.

Mayowa, also the Director, Mayowa Clothline, said that fashion acceptability in the country had reached the stage where Kampala, Ankara and Tie-and-Dye could be used for clothes, bags and shoes.

“If a platform where these innovations can regularly be exhibited to the public can be created, I believe it will bring in a lot of foreign investment into the country on the long run.’’

The fashion icon said that traditional wears were, mostly, made from cultural attire, therefore, organising exhibitions was a sure way of preserving such culture.

Mayowa advised unemployed youths to embrace tailoring, weaving, and modeling as they would yield great benefits.

“Instead of staying at home and becoming a nuisance to the community, young people can engage in various forms of fashion-related occupations to add value to themselves.

“This will also give them an opportunity to make money for themselves.’’

Mayowa lauded the organisers of the Africa Fashion Show for its efforts at assembling experts to discuss the way forward for the industry.

He said that with such events, Nigeria would be able to continually showcase its rich cultural attires to the rest of the world.
