Jibril Rajoub the head of the Palestine FA has suggested that people burn Lionel Messi’s photos and shirts if the Barcelona star plays against Israel.
Messi and co are to play a friendly against Israel on Saturday in Jerusalem as they gear up for the World Cup
Rajoub is dismayed by this move believing it to be a political one.
Recall that Israel and Palestine are locked in a bitter struggle over territory and Israel officially naming Jerusalem as their capital has caused a massive uproar from Palestinians and their supporters.
Countries have taken sides with America firmly in league with Israel but the likes of France and other European countries choosing instead to recognise the rights of the Palestinians
The Palestine FA chief has urged Palestinian fans not to take this laying low and should come out in full voice to condemn the Argentine captain if he plays the game.
“He’s a big symbol so we are going to target him personally and we call on all to burn his picture and his shirt and to abandon him,” he told reporters Sunday.
“We still hope that Messi will not come.”
