Fani-Kayode speaks on “boycott” of Ibadan press conference

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has disclosed that he did not call a press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday.

He disclosed this on Wednesday while reacting to reports that journalists boycotted a press conference he called in the ancient city.

The controversial minister said that he did not send out or authorise anyone to send out any press invitation, saying the reports of a boycott were false.

“It is not true that we called a press conference in Ibadan two days ago.

“We did not invite any journalist for a press conference and neither did we send out any invitation.

“The idea that the press conference was boycotted is false.

“You cannot boycott a party that never took place,” Fani-Kayode tweeted.

Fani-Kayode has been at loggerheads with the media since a video of him verbally assaulting a journalist, Mr Eyo Charles, during a press conference in Calabar, Cross River State on August 20 surfaced online.

A press conference called by the ex-minister in neighbouring Akwa Ibom State after the video surfaced was boycotted by journalists.

The state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), which directed its members to boycott any event involving Fani-Kayode, said it was following instructions from the national leadership of the union.

The ex-minister has since apologised for using the word “stupid” on the journalist.
