Renowned Nigerian singer and rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, recently shared a harrowing experience he faced in 2013, where he narrowly escaped death during a trip from Abuja to Lagos. The incident occurred after performing at a wedding ceremony in Abuja alongside his managers, Femisoro Ajayi and Sidney Sule.
In his detailed narration on the latest episode of “Untapped” with media personality Gbemi O, Falz explained that they hired a car for the journey due to the unavailability of flights. The group, unaware of the impending danger, embarked on the trip around 2 p.m.
During the journey, while they were asleep, their car was ambushed by “turban-tying, AK47-wielding” assailants. The attackers fired gunshots, resulting in the tragic death of the driver.
“I led a solid prayer, and it was probably what ended up saving us,” Falz stated. The assailants demanded money, and despite the group insisting there was none, the attackers searched the car. The incident unfolded in a forested area, amid heightened Boko Haram activities.
As sirens approached from a distance, the attackers increased fire, creating chaos. Falz and his team attempted to flag down passing cars, but no one stopped. Eventually, a police officer and a self-identified doctor came to their aid.
Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Falz expressed concerns about his parents potentially disapproving of his music career continuation.
