Femi Falana Raises Alarm on Proposed Third Term Agenda

Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has alleged there is a plot to secure a third term for the current administration.

In an interview with Sunday Tribune, Femi Falana (SAN) disclosed this alleged plot will come to light soon as there will be manifestations of the third term Agenda.

Falana reacted to a call for the amendment of the constitution to allow President Buhari contest a third term, which was made by Hon. Charles Oko Enya of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

In a statement obtained by Sunday Tribune, the human rights lawyer said “I hope Nigerians have not forgotten that when the Babangida-led junta was going to extend its tenure, we had the Association for Better Nigeria (ABN) that went to court that the 1993 presidential election should not hold.”

“We thought it was a joke. So, very soon, Nigerians will have other manifestation over the third term agenda.”

This is coming after lawmakers rejected the passage of a bill seeking to elongate the single term of President and Governors from 4 years to six years last Tuesday.

However, President Buhari has clearly stated that he has no intention of contesting again in the 2023 presidential election.

He made this known during the APC National Executive meeting which held in Abuja.

He said “I’m not going to make the mistake of attempting a third term.

“Besides the age, I swore by the holy book that I would go by the constitution and the constitution said two terms.
