Farmers under the aegis of the Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association have given the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to rescue the release of Chief Olu Falae.
Former presidential candidate Chief Olu Falae was kidnapped from his farm in Ilado village, Akure North Local Government Area of the state on Monday by gunmen police confirmed were Fulani herdsmen.
In a meeting organised by the association on Wednesday, its chairman Akin Olotu, while speaking to journalists, said Falae’s kidnapping was unacceptable to the farmers.
Olotu took a swipe at the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the state, stating that their nomadic way of cattle rearing was archaic and had become a menace.
The chairman urged the FG to urgently find a solution to the menace of the Fulani herdsmen and stated that it would be in the interest of all concerned if the government did something about it.
He compared the consequences of not securing the release of the former Secretary to the Federal Government to a very deadly war that occurred in the Old Oyo Empire.
“We therefore give seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to secure the release of Chief Falae, if he is not released within the next seven days, the farmers in Ondo State will take action that will have a national impact. We should not forget the Agbekoya war in the old Oyo State,” he declared.
