There are indications that world’s biggest social networking site, Facebook may soon get a “dislike” button, in response to years of continuous demand by users.
According to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, who was responding to questions during a question-and-answer session streamed live on the site on Tuesday “People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years. Today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it.”
He stated that the button may not exactly be called a “dislike” button but will be an alternative to the “like” button, since not every moment can be a good moment which will warrant the deployment of a like button.
Zuckerberg said the button would not be for expressing disdain for posts, but will be for showing empathy for posts that seem inappropriate to “like,” such as news of natural disasters or loved ones dying.
Declaring that the tool may soon be publicly tested, Zuckerberg said the company does not want to create a community where users can vote down a post that may be the expression of an event that is very important to the person who put it up.
