Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has described his £50,000 fine by the English FA for comments made in the aftermath of Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Southampton on October 3 as a “disgrace”.
The 52-year-old had described referee Robert Madley as being “afraid” to award his side a penalty in the game, and the FA came down hard on him for it.
According to the FA in a statement on Wednesday, Mourinho’s behaviour was capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The body then slapped the fine and a suspended one-match ban on him, a decision Mourinho has criticised.
“I’m happy I don’t have an electronic tag,” he said. “£50,000 is a disgrace. The possibility of getting a stadium ban is astonishing.”
He accused the FA of being discriminatory in their disciplinary actions, stating that Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger should have been punished for describing referee Mike Dean as “weak” and “naive” in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea last month.
“Afraid costs £50,000. Weak and naive – you can do it,” Mourinho said.
He also took a swipe at the FA for not punishing Wenger when the Arsenal manager pushed him on the sidelines when the two teams met in October 2014.
“We can push people in the technical area.
“We can, no problem.
“You should analyse what’s happening with me, compare it with other managers.
“Do you think a word is comparable with a push in the eyes of everyone?
“I can’t say anything because the next time I speak, seriously a stadium ban, then after that, an electronic tag,” he stressed.
