A group, the Southern Nigerian Peoples Assembly has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the State of Emergency in the Northeastern States in order to grant the military full powers to wage war on teeming insurgency in the region.

The Assembly made the remarks in a communique issued after a meeting in Abuja earlier this week.

The communique signed by its Chairman, Chief Edwin Clark, the Co-Chairman, Bishop Bolande Gbonigi and a representative of Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, reiterates the groups “unequivocal and unflinching solidarity with President Goodluck Jonathan on his declared resolve to employ all means and power at his disposal to bring the Boko Haram insurgency to an end.”

The communique also reads, “We urge President Jonathan to, without further delay, extend the state of emergency in the affected states without pleading political niceties and exigencies.

“Nigeria today is in a state of war against itself and therefore the full deployment of tactics and strategies is imperative to win this war if Nigeria must remain one united, indissoluble country.”

In attendance at the meeting were Air Commodore Idongesit  Nkanga (retd.), a former Senate President, Chief  Adolphus Wabara, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, and Senator Stella Omu.
