An unconfirmed number of worshippers have been reported killed following an explosion that rocked St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State capital on Sunday.
The explosion was said to have occurred as Sunday Mass was ongoing in the church.
The Herald learnt that the incident caused pandemonium on the street and nearby areas, with residents fleeing for safety.
Another unconfirmed account stated that it was herdsmen that laid seized to the church and killed worshippers.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command the incident at the church.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the attack, said that the cause has yet to be ascertained.
The police spokesman said that the state Commissioner of Police was on his way to the scene of the incident to confirm the cause.
She added that more details would be made available later.
