An health expert in the field of Dentistry, Dr Alatishe Muhammad has warned against the use of toothpick to remove food remnants from the teeth and gums.
The expert noted that the correct medical way to approach the issue was cleaning between the teeth at least once a day, using an inter-dental cleaner such as floss.
Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara state, he said: “Using a toothpick is not an ideal way to remove something stuck between your teeth.
“Toothpicks can cause abrasion and damage to your teeth at the base where they meet the gums. This can lead to gum disease and other dental problems”.
