Manchester City have signed French star Benjamin Mendy from AS Monaco in a
reported £52m to make him the most expensive defender in history.
Mendy has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium and will wear jersey no.22 in
the new season.
The 22-year old became a target for European heavyweights following his impressive
performances in the colours of French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan were linked with his signature
before he signed for the Citizens.
He becomes Manchester City’s fifth major signing of the summer after Bernado Silva,
Danilo, Ederson and Kyle Walker.
Benjamin Mendy will replace Serbian star Aleksandr Kolarov at left-back after the latter
left for Italian Serie A side AS Roma over the weekend.
