Executive Jealousy: French President’s Girlfriend Trashes His Office

1 Min Read

Flying into a fit of rage, France’s first lady Valerie Trierweiler went bonkers in her partner’s office in the Elysee Palace and destroyed artifacts, including a Louis XVI vase, to the tune of more than$4 million, media reports claimed Thursday.

The stories were denied by a spokesman for the Mobilier National, which is responsible for presidential furniture, according to the London Evening Standard.

The allegations surfaced on French online news sites including Economie Matin and in the British magazine Closer, which published a day early on Thursday to herald the latest allegations in the sensationalized tale of Hollande’s reported affair with actress Julie Gayet.

Trierweiler just spent eight days in a hospital for treatment of depression and is reportedly now staying at La Lanterne, the presidential home in Versailles.

President Hollande said last week that he would make a statement sometime before his planned trip to Washington on Feb. 9.

The alleged temper tantrum occurred after the president admitted the two-year affair to his partner, the reports said. In response, she trashed more than $4 million worth of French antiques including centuries-old vases, clocks and furniture, according to the allegations.
