Meanwhile, The Herald reported that an alleged petty thief who depended on charm has lost his life after being descended on by angry residents in the Calabar South area of Cross River State.

The young is said to have had the charm wrapped around his waist and had hijacked a woman’s hand bag in the bid to cart away with its content.

Seeing the charm, the mob initially refrained from beating him, but in the end, they decided to burn him alive.

According to a resident who was interviewed by Cross River Watch, the alleged thief had almost escaped from the scene when some boys descended on the tricycle he boarded.

He narrated, “Just this morning, he snatched hand bag from a woman who was going to her business along Utibe by New Airport. He was with jaz ( charms, talisman) on his waist which prevented the people from beating him.

“He actually escaped into a moving Keke but the driver didn’t know he drove him to the next street, Usoro. Them burn am close to Utibe street by New Airport. The Keke man had to jump off the keke soon as he discovered that he is a thief, which give way to the street boys.”
