Dani Osvaldo, bad boy of football and former record Southampton signing has retired at the tender age of 30 to become a rock star.
The Saints forked out £15million for Osvaldo in 2013 and since then, the Argentinian-born striker’s career has fizzled out.
He went to Juventus on loan, but that didn’t pan out, then he went to Inter, Boca Juniors and then Porto.
Osvaldo’s last club was Boca Juniors, who he moved to permanently in January, but he had his contract terminated in May after arguing with coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto over being caught smoking in the dressing room.
He was offered a lifeline when Chievo offered him a contract, but he turned them down in favour of a career in rock music.
He was highly controversial though, in 2013, he called caretaker manager Aurelio Andreazzoli ‘incompetent’ after he was only brought off the bench for 15 minutes during Roma’s Coppa Italia final defeat to rivals Lazio.
After this Osvaldo moved to Southampton but controversy followed. In January 2014, he was fined £40,000 and banned for three matches for violent conduct during a touchline bust-up in a match with Newcastle. Three weeks later, he head-butted team-mate Jose Fonte during a training ground fracas, leading to the club handing him a two-week suspension.
We wish him all the best in his future endeavour.
