Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, is dead.
It was learnt that Na’Abba died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Wednesday morning after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed ailment.
Born on September 27, 1958, he hailed from Kano State and was Speaker of the lower chamber under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He became speaker after Salisu Buhari stepped down from the position following a certificate forgery scandal.
He recently dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Born into the family of Alhaji Umar Na’Abba, a businessman in Tudun Wada, Kano City, his early education was at Jakara Primary School, Kano where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1969.
He proceeded to Rumfa College, Kano for his West African School Certificate and was also at School of Preliminary Studies, Kano, between 1974 and 1976, before gaining admission into Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in October 1976.
Na’Abba obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from ABU in 1979.
