The 2019 Miss USA, Cheslie Kryst has died after she jumped from a building in Manhattan on Sunday, the New York Police Department has confirmed.
The 30-year-old was an attorney who received three degrees from two universities.
She hailed from North Carolina and practised civil litigation for a law firm and worked to help prisoners who may have been sentenced unjustly get reduced punishments, free of charge, CNN reported.
Before the incident, Kyrst shared a photo on her Instagram page with the cryptic message: “May this day bring you rest and peace”.
In a statement, her family said, “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie.
“Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.”
