Ex-Fire Vice Chief Arrested Over Employment Scam, Set To Be Arraigned – EFCC

2 Min Read

A former Assistant Comptroller General of the Nigeria Fire Service, Mr Dada Olatunji, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olatunji was arrested over allegations of employment scam levelled against him by two job applicants, a statement by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed.

According to the Thursday statement, the ex-fire vice chief stands accused of duping the applicants – Robert Matthew and Theresa Abah – of the sum of N575,000, having promised but failed to secure employment for them at the service.

A petition to the anti-graft body by the Matthew and Abah accused Olatunji of defrauding them through a junior officer, one Christopher Adaje of the Nyanya office of the service.

They said Adaje had informed them that the service was recruiting in December 2014 and promised to help them secure jobs in the service if they could part with N350,000 each.

However, Adaje failed to keep his side of the bargain even after the applicants had raised a combined sum of N575,000, which they said was sourced from their friends.

A visit to Adaje’s office for a refund led them to a discovery that the supposed recruitment exercise was a fraud.

But when the applicants filed a complaint with the EFCC and Adaje was nabbed, he confessed that he was fronting for Olatunji, whom he claimed to have given the money to.

The EFCC statement said both suspects would soon be charged to court.
