An Upper Area Court, sitting in Kasuwan Nama, in Jos, on Friday sentenced a 20-year ex-convict , Dahiru Inuwa, to two years in prison stealing two cell phones.
The judge, Lawal Suleiman, who sentenced the ex-convict without an option to pay a fine said it would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on July 16, at the Laranto Police Station by the complainant, Malam Bala Yakubu.
Gokwat said that the convict stole a Samsung and Techno phones valued at N69,000 and N8,000 cash, a day after he was released from the prison after serving 18 months in prison.
He said that the convict was apprehended in Bauchi, where he went to sell the phones and both phones were recovered from him.
The prosecutor said the offence, contravened the provisions of sections 327 and 271 punishable under sections 333 and 272 of the penal code laws of Plateau.
On arraignment, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency promising never to get involved in crimes again. (NAN).
